Senate Confirms Nominee After Agreeing Not to Ask Questions

The bipartisan arrangement allowed the vote to proceed in under nine minutes.

WASHINGTON — The Senate confirmed a federal appellate nominee on Monday after members of both parties agreed not to ask her any questions, a procedural arrangement that reduced the hearing to nine minutes.

“We had a robust exchange of views,” said Sen. Richard Kwan of Colorado, the committee chair. “The view was that we should proceed.”

The nominee, who has served on a state supreme court for six years, submitted 1,400 pages of written answers to the committee’s questions, which no member indicated they had opened.

She was confirmed 61-38 and will be sworn in next month.
