Report: Area Man Still Waiting for Novel to Adapt Itself

The 612-page book has been on his nightstand since 2021 and has yet to announce a limited series.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A local man who purchased a novel in 2021 is still waiting for it to adapt itself into a television series, sources confirmed Tuesday.

“I figured it was only a matter of time,” said Greg Mullen, 44, gesturing at the 612-page book on his nightstand. “Everything else gets adapted. I assumed the book would take care of it.”

Mr. Mullen said he had enjoyed the first 40 pages and had been “saving the rest” for a moment when a streaming service announced a cast.

Publishers say the phenomenon is common. “Readers increasingly expect the adaptation to arrive first,” said one editor. “The book is now the preview.”

Mr. Mullen said he remained optimistic, and had begun leaving the book face-out on the coffee table “in case anyone from Netflix comes by.”
