Judi Dench writes in a new memoir that it was Daniel Craig's idea to kill off her character, M, in the James Bond film Skyfall, according to The Guardian.
In the memoir, "Is It Too Late to Make a Run for It?", Dench recounts being taken to the Wolseley restaurant by Barbara Broccoli, Michael G. Wilson and Sam Mendes, who outlined the plot and told her they were going to kill her character. She writes that she does not think Craig was there.
Dench also addresses reports that she cried when told she was being replaced, writing that she did not cry and asking why she would after 20 years and eight Bond films. She notes that total is one more than Roger Moore, the longest-running 007 to date.
The disclosure follows Craig's own account that he proposed killing Bond off. He has said he asked Broccoli whether he could do so at the end of the fourth film on the way back from the Berlin premiere of Casino Royale in 2006. The film No Time to Die ended with Bond being killed in a hail of missile fire. The next actor to play Bond is on the brink of being unveiled.
